Which is such strange behavior to me, but I kind of get it. It seems like if the Switch detects anything outside of what he expects to see for the original fans, it just doesn't turn the fans on. So I took a pair of Noctua Low Noise Adapters I had and put them on the stock fans, that caused them to not function. So I installed the one Noctua fan in another fan position and ran an extension cable to it. They came with an adapter to plug into a standard 3 pin header but I'm assuming the lack of RPM reporting means the switch just doesn't try and power them up. The board in the switch has 2 standard 3 pin fan headers, but the Scythe fans are 2 pin. I swapped out the existing 2 fans for the 2 Scythe fans (I though it had 3 fans, but only has headers for 2), and they don't work. So I ordered 2 Scythe "Mini Kaze" fans and 1 Noctua 40x20mm fan. Those 2 40mm fans in my GS724TS switch are louder than my storage server and workstation PC combined. So I'm trying to quiet down my Netgear switch. Summer seemed to last longer when I was younger. As things. OK, so I have to ask, "who stole summer and what did you do with it"? With my son heading back to school and all the staff back from holidays the long grind from September to December starts.
